Jakarta, March 20th, 2023 – Old age or seniority is defined in Undang-Undang No. 13 of 1998 as the period when someone reaches the age of 60. Globally, the elderly population is increasing, including in Indonesia, where the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) by Badan Pusat Statistik recorded a population of 10.48% of elderly people in March 2022.
Old age is a unique phase of life, with needs and lifestyles that are not always the same as other age groups. In the past, old age was synonymous with limitations, dependency, and vulnerability to disease. With the advancement of medical science and the development of various products that support preventive measures for the elderly, the life expectancy of the elderly is increasing, allowing them to live a healthy, independent, active, and productive life, breaking the old perception.
“Being elderly is a blessing, and not everyone has the opportunity to experience it. As an elderly person, I am truly grateful in this era, which is often referred to as the golden age, where I am still active, independent, and enthusiastic about learning new things. One important thing in my opinion is to be socially active, do not hesitate to make new friends and keep up with the times,” said Naning Adiwoso, the brand ambassador of SENIOR EXPO.
In 2002, the World Health Organization (WHO) introduced the concept of Active Ageing – the process of aging that remains healthy, optimal in physical, social, and mental aspects. This is in line with Law No. 36 of 2009 concerning Health, where the government strives to achieve adequate health maintenance at both the primary and advanced levels. The elderly health program is one of the indicators of the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2020-2024 with a target of 65% of districts/cities providing elderly health services in 2024.
“SENIOR EXPO is held to support the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly population, from various aspects, including health, independence, and various activities that can be pursued or carried out by the elderly. SENIOR EXPO also emphasizes a preventive approach, how various products and services presented at this event can help us all prepare for old age and support a healthy lifestyle for the elderly,” said Teddy Halim, director of PT Media Artha Sentosa, the organizer of SENIOR EXPO.
SENIOR EXPO will be held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) from November 30th to December 2nd, 2023. During the three days, various programs and activities will be held as an integrated series of events, and the exhibition area will showcase various products and services that are beneficial for improving the quality of life and supporting a healthy lifestyle for the elderly.
This event is also supported by the Ministry of Health’s Directorate General of Public Health, the Directorate of Productive Age and Elderly Health, and various related organizations, including Alzheimer’s Indonesia (ALZI), the Indonesian Toilet Association (ATI), the Indonesian Physiotherapy Association (IFI), the Indonesian Medicinal Herbal Discipline Association (PDHMI), and the Indonesian Sports Medicine Specialist Association (PDSKO). SENIOR EXPO can be attended by medical professionals, elderly care service providers, academics, policy makers, the elderly, and the general public.
